The redevelopment of the Foggia Territory Museum is part of the PNRR M1C3 – Investments 1.2 “Removing physical and cognitive barriers in museums, libraries, and archives” and 1.3. “Improving energy efficiency in cinemas, theaters, and museums.” The funded project is titled “Transhumants: a community on the move. Intervention for an inclusive experiential ecosystem” and is implemented by the Puglia Region’s Department of Tourism, Economy, Culture, and Territorial Development.
The project includes upgrades to the museum’s spaces in terms of accessibility, extraordinary maintenance of systems, and restoration and recovery of the entire historic structure.
The overall goal is to engage the entire local community in accessibility issues, thanks to the promotion and communication strategies that will be implemented by the Management. This will serve as an example of best practice for the newly established AltApulia Museum Network, promoted by the Puglia Region among the museums in the provinces of Foggia and BAT. The Territorial Museum, managed directly by the Region, is the de facto network hub and point of reference for the network.

The building is located in the historic center of Foggia, along Via Arpi, an urban axis considered a true “cultural street” due to the widespread presence of buildings of historical value and venues associated with the city’s cultural and university life. The Museum occupies a portion of the ground floor of a building subject to conservation restrictions pursuant to Legislative Decree 42/2004, adjacent to the Church of Sant’Agostino and shared with spaces designated for the University of Foggia, the Province, and the Superintendency.
The planned works primarily concern the elimination of architectural barriers, both internal and external, the relocation of the main entrance to ensure its functional autonomy and clearer recognition, the removal of recent and incongruous additions, and the overhaul of the cladding and materials in compliance with the Superintendency’s guidelines for historic buildings. A complete overhaul of the technological systems is also planned to bring the facility up to contemporary standards of efficiency and safety.
